Sjogren's Syndrome Can Cause a Dry Vagina

An autoimmune disease occurs when the body's immune system over reacts and starts to attack tissues which are a part of the body. In other words the body attacks its own cells. This can occur locally or may affect many tissues throughout the body.

The immune system is designed to attack foreign invaders that can harm us as in germs that cause infections. But sometimes the system produces abnormal antibodies that attack healthy tissue

Sjogren's syndrome (Sjögrens Syndrome) is a  long-term autoimmune disease.  The patient's white blood cells attack the saliva and tear glands, leading to dry mouth and eyes because the body ceases to produce enough tears and saliva . Sometimes the gland that is responsible for keeping the vagina moist is also affected, resulting in vaginal dryness. There can also be pain and stiffness in the joints and aching muscles.

The normal treatment treatment for auto immune diseases is to suppress the immune system.
Direct treatment of symptoms is also wise. Artificial Tears for the eyes Artificial saliva for the mouth
and Female Gel for the vagina
