White fat insulates the body and stores energy and is the most abundant type of fat in the body
Brown fat gets its color from the iron in the mitochondria and burns fat instead of storing it. During the burning process it generates heat and encourages weight loss
Brown fat has mostly been found in infants and it has been thought to be lost as we get older but the scientists have now discovered a way to generate brown fat in mice. It works by converting the white fat to brown fat.

Studies in humans have not yet commenced but who would have thought that fat could be a future source of weight loss
